Disability and Surveillance
Lucy’s current research delves into the fascinating topic of hypervisibility and disability in Romantic literature. The focus of this research revolves around the political aspects of ability and how nineteenth-century society perceived and categorised individuals as care-receivers, often requiring constant monitoring. Simultaneously, it examines the role of carers, positioning them as overseers responsible for providing this care. Through an exploration of these dynamics, the research sheds light on the societal attitudes and beliefs surrounding disability during the Romantic era.
Biosurveillance
Lucy is working on a biosurveillance project involving rivers in Wales. The team are looking at pollutants in select Welsh rivers and are looking to create a user-friendly app and interactive website. Through these platforms, users will be able to explore site-specific pollutant information and discover valuable resource links.
This project serves as a steppingstone for future research concerned with literature and climate change, exploring the interplay between nineteenth-century literary works and present-day environmental challenges.
